Greeting folkaroons,

I made myself a palette holder for my easel yesterday.
It consists of 2 angle brackets connected to the front legs giving a flat area for my palette to go.
Within 30 seconds of my installation I'd dropped my paint filled palette on the carpet
The fatal flaw in my plan was forgetting to tighten up the wingnut on the left hand side.....bugger!

But anywho, Here's what I was working on at the time -

All comments welcome as always. Negative one too.....oh yes

hi chalky, bummer about the carpet, did the paint come off or are you in trouble?! I have just been listening to the news about a whole load of wood being washed up on the beach so your painting is topical! I like the painting, the only thing I would say is that it looks to me that there is a feeling like it is a backdrop butt up to the fence, ie it doesn't seem to go off into the distance, because of the strength of colour it all seems up close, but that could just be me, and what would a cushion designer know anyway?!
See if you were in america you could probably sue the owner of the beach for causing you to damage your carpet...

I love that - great colours almost purple in parts. I love the reflections and the little figure that i didn't notice til i went back for a second look. thats a good point i always think - that you don't see everything in one go but are attracted round the painting.
nice work
claim for the carpet on insurance - its why we have it...

Thanks folks,

Yes I see what you mean re the flat look of the background Bec. I think it may be, as you say, because the sea colour is so stronger tone.

I sha'll keep that in mind when I next paint a seascape for sure.

It's always a trick to paint what works rather than what is actually there don't ya think.
Experience is what it's all about I guess.

Anyway troops, Paint on.

Catch ya's

Oh yeah,

Forgot to say - got most of the paint off the carpet with white spirits. The room hums a bit mind.

I have devised a cunning plan now too, to stop any such painty shinanagins occuring again.

'Bluetack'

A big lump off the blue sticky stuff. To secure my palette on my Chalkyfied brackets even if I whack it with my knee or summut.

Sweet!

Catch ya's

Get yourself down to Focus or B+Q and get some low odour white spirit,--it wont stink your house out when cleaning carpets!!! I also use it to thin the paint when using oils.Use very little--just to do thin grasses and branches.
