Hi there
I need to package up a box canvas painting to post it and I wondered if anyone had experience of the best way to avoid it getting damaged. It's about 60cm by 35cm and 1cm deep so I haven't been able to find any cardboard boxes to fit it and I'm not sure if bubblewrap and corrugated paper will be enough protection. thanks for your help!

I usually wrap mine with lots of bubble wrap first, and then two layers of thick card with extra protection on the corners. I look out for large empty boxes and sort of make a box out of what I have. It makes the parcel quite heavy but obviously its worth it. I look out for boxes made of the thick stuff so there is usually a bit of a supply. Anything larger than about three foot I would use thin hardboard too. Dont skimp on the packing tape!

You can buy ready made boxes, but I havn't been that organised yet!

I always put greaseproof paper over the surface of the painting first, then loads and loads of bubble , then strong carboard.
I always use special delivery from royal mail too.
It means that it is insured and trackable and guarenteed next day delivery.
Its not that expensive either. I posted a huge 3ftx3ft painting--you can imagine how big it was with packing--christmas week and it was only

I like the idea of the greaseproof paper, what a good way of avoiding any chance of the bubblewrap sticking to the paint!

Having had the bubble wrap stick to a painting I thought was dry I always use grease proof paper now when packing!!!
