A good well reasoned posting Helen. I do so strongly believe that in order to criticize it is first necessary to understand. To denigrate work because it doesn't look " nice " is unhelpful and ultimatly leads up a blind alley, as we have seen here. Let's call a halt to all this nonsense and get back to our easels where we belong.

That is a very condecending reply Dennis,I understand perfectly well what is behind the work portrayed, perhaps more than most, only I would choose not to create work portraying this, to thrust so much hate, pain, anger and contempt on others,in fact the opposite is true, as it is more cathartic for me personally. I would like to ask Dennis and it is a genuine question, why you choose yourself to paint images that are pleasing to the eye and has all been done before,if it is bad art as you say?I am afraid you understand nothing about anyones work if you have to read other peoples views and not work it out for yourself.

A bit like the Emporer's new clothes me thinks,so all you people that paint or create art whatever reason it maybe, whether to please yourself and others, go for it, for you are truly the free thinkers.

The art establishment, like any other powerful institution can drown the ordinary mans voice and sensibilities. As much as it is at liberty to provoke, we have the right to challenge it's endorsements and say when we are offended. In this context, Wendy, among others in this forum, is a 'nobody's for a cold tater' fearless warrier.

I promise to stop now too (I think)

Precisely!
Every one of us has the right to air our opinion without being made to feel reduced because of it.
Well done Wendy for sticking to your guns :D

Thank you Wendy for giving me an opportunity to yalk about my work. I paint as I do because I get a kick out of painting objects in aesthetically pleasing arrangements. Sometimes these are random, sometimes I spend time arranging them. It thrills me when a tension is created between objects. This is what I do. Each painting is a totally original fresh statement that has never been in the world before, in any form. I think they fit perfectly well with my statement in that the intention is to highlight the ordinary and commonplace that is usually overlooked, and perhaps people will look closer at mundane objects and see the beauty of the everyday.
However it does not stop me appreciating the work of other people who are doing widely divergent work from my own. I can still see the beauty and relevance of of T.E.'s work and still will defend it.
My remarks were not aimed at you in particular, and I find it peculiar that you took my post personally and come out with so much venomn. As Michael Winner might have said, "Calm down dear, its only an art forum!"
