Firstly heres a fun image I made within the past couple of years sometime. I was actually playing around with trying to do an inkjet transfer - which was a bit of a disaster but never mind, thats another story altogether.

Anyway what I was wondering was whether any of you have a digital SLR camera.
I am seriously considering buying one hopefully one that comes with a lens. I have been doing a bit of research on the internet of course but there is nothing like personal recommendation from fellow artists so.............?

Oh I am mainly buying it to document my artwork which is either 2d works on paper e.g., printmaking/ drawing etc

or installations

or bookart.

Thus far I have been using my digital camera which is Ok but I think I could probably get better results of my printmaking works if I used a higher grade of camera.

I would appreciate your input

best wishes

Aine

Hi Aine - that's quite some image! (very large too!)

I have a Nikon D70S, it's a couple of years old and they've brought out a newer model now. I'm very happy with it and would recommend it as a camera but I've actually given up trying to use it for recording my paintings as I got fed up having to crop/straighten, fix lighting etc. I never felt happy that it was completely in focus all over the picture either. I've ended up buying an A3 scanner (the Mustek discussed on an earlier thread!) and it is just great, I'm really happy with the image quality, I just have to play with the colour settings a tiny bit and I can get nice large high res images which are ideal for printing.

I'm not trying to put you off upgrading to a DSLR but I'd buy one because you want it as a camera to take photographs as well and not just as a tool to record your artwork.

cheers
elise
