Hi Everyone,
I recently got a message from a friend, and also one other about this scam,so ive posted the original email below.I guess we all need to take care......
Lisa

Just an FYI to anyone who has placed paintings on boundless gallery. There is an individual named Eve Johnson who is sending emails to individuals stating she wants to purchase paintings, but she is moving from the US to London, England.

Please be very careful. . . .I caught on very early as the email grammar was really off and she failed to tell me which website she viewed my artwork. The prices are listed on Boundless Gallery and on Saatchi Gallery as well. I was sent a cashiers check which you could tell as fake. I called the bank to double check and it was in fact a fraudulent check, as it was originally purchased for $5.00 and the cashiers check was for $5300.00

Boundless Galleries has posted a warning on their website so they are doing everything on their end to mitigate and prevent this from happening, but please beware!! It is very disappointing that there are individuals out there who pull stunts like this, as we work very hard to create each piece and work hard to promote our work!! :x

i don't know why it suprises me that so many b******s are willing to rip people off for money with no thought for how that effects their victim, what are these peoples parents like?! I get at least one email a day from people pretending they have been left millions of pounds and need to put it in my bank account!...lots of variations but that is the main idea.just imagine the mind that thinks this kind of behaviour is okay and spends time over a cup of coffee thinking of newer better ways to steal....I am really glad that you didn't get ripped off and thanks for telling everyone.

Yes we get several of these scams a day too

I am occasionally moved to reply to them and when I do I usually mention that their mother ( I read somewhere that they are usually young male Nigerians) would be ashamed of them if they knew how they were making money.
It's widespread through now. My son is looking for a room to share and these sods prey on the 'room to let sites too'!
We've had two recently from a 'woman' who changes her surname often and offers a room that matches exactly what you are looking for. I guess it's a deposit they're after.
Another one posed as needing a room and offered

Some do tug at the Heartstrings when they say they have no money for the cold winter coming up or money to go to uni, things like that, but I guess they are scams too.

Some of you might already know this, but if you get an email that you think is spam/scam you should NEVER open it because 1) many spammers track which emails are opened so they know it's worth keeping on sending them because the email address is live 2) the emails can contain viruses which can damage your computer. I have a btinternet/yahoo email account which automatically send things it thinks are spam into a separate inbox - if I see anything which looks dodgy or I don't recognise the sender I just delete it without opening. Any contacts through artistsweb go into a separate folder and although I've had the occasional email from a chancer, it's not been much of a problem.

Keep watching!
Elise

Hello everyone. I am a very new US-based user of artists web. I was targeted this week by the now-infamous Eve Johnson, wanting to buy all of my paintings (sight unseen!) and ship them to London for her new apartment. S/he claims to be pregnant and in the UK to attend her twin sister's wedding. Her husband has dutifully sent the cashier's check to me and would I please meet the movers at my home to give them money for shipping.

This scammer is easy to spot. Poor grammar, weak story line, and not a believeable story. I am working with our local police to track her/him down. Fellow artists, beware of Eve Johnson!!

The best bit of software I've found is Mailwasher. You can open spam (it is still at the server) to read and delete and bounce it back. It is free though there is a pro version costing little. I used to be plagued by spam but no more.
