Yes, I'm in the 'Andy Whittle email' club too!
my concern is also the 'trust' element - will we receive the correct amount of commission?
But also, how can a print be correctly priced if the number of editions is unknown? - If I ever buy prints from other artists, there is a comfort in knowing how rare or common the print is. If I buy a print from the Next Directory or something, I expect it to be extremely common & in alot of peoples homes, but then I don't expect to pay alot for it!

We ( myself & husband Chris ) publish other artists' works, which we then sell in our gallery & to the trade. They are all strictly Limited Editions though, signed & numbered by the artists, which we pay them a set figure for as they are signed ( if the artist is local ) or upfront in batches of 10 if they have to be posted. The artist therefore knows exactly how many we have sold.
Mind you I haven't contacted A.W. yet to hear how he intends to work out the finances.
Val

Hi all !

I've just managed to find this forum which Lindi mentioned to me on Friday (sorry for interrupting Coronation Steet) and I've got to say, I feel like a minor celebrity now.

Its good to see that most people understand the email I sent was genuine and hopefully I can clear up a few doubts as best possible for you...

Firstly, I was being a little selective when sending out the email, based on a profile image or the first few images on a website, but sent around 40 initially as I wasn't expecting the response that I got.

I think Lindi has summed up the basics in her earlier post, but hopefully I'll have some solid details and contracts to return with in the next 1-2 months.

As for the commission, we're going to allow artists to specify how much they would like to receive for each print sold, whether that be priced individually or as a flat rate. Obviously this figure will probably affect the number sold, but this is down to you. Ideally, we hope that we'll be able to retail the prints at a level affordable to most households.

In regards to tracking the number of prints sold, we will be using an ecommerce system for online/phone/trade sales which lists all items individually. I am a web designer/developer and so will be able to create a system and give a website address on request, which will list the pieces available and total number sold.

If limiting the number of prints for a particular piece is necessary, the system mentioned above will allow you to see the number we have supplied and so you can advise us to remove it from sale whenever you feel the need. Unfortunately though, we'll be unable to provide any form of signed prints as they will be produced and couriered out on a quick turn around.

I hope I've covered everything here. Please feel free to ask any questions and I'll be as informative as I can be at this stage. If anybody who I've not emailed would like to express some interest, please respond via this forum and I'll get back to you.

Many thanks for all the support I've received from everybody so far and hopefully I'll be back in touch soon !

Cheers

Andy
