Evening groovers,

It was summer here today....I kid you not.

I went for a walk in the wilds and when I came home I thought for a minute I'd got a tan  . Then I had a wash, and there it was ..gone :?

But anywhoooo, Thought I'd chuck my latest painty splodgings on here for your views and critique (is that how you spell it?)

What I really like about this piece is its ability to make me feel like I am there. I am usually not one for landscape pieces of this nature but this one really had an impact on me. Good work sir, good work!

Hi Chalky

Now this is different to what you normally do.
Like it very much. Aren't oils wonderful to work with?
Have fun

I love your painting Chalky! You've inspired me to persevere; I'm working on a harbour scene too, at the moment (must be that time of year) but I'm really 'stuck' so any feedback at all, will be most welcome

Thanks everypeeps for your comments

I'm trying to do a few more local landscapes these days. Getting quite into them actually.

Yvonne - I like your painting matey. Looks warm and sunny and very Med.

The only thing I wonder is whether the attention is meant to go to the foreground boats or the background hills/houses.
The hill/houses have got so much detail in them that my eye is going up there.
They are also a darker tone I think which is kinda
is working opposite to nature (if ya get me drift)

I think putting in the distant stuff in a lighter tone (more white in the mix) and in a kinda loose style helps to bring the darker toned sharper stuff forward.

Depend what you want I guess. Think I'd lighten up the back stuff (maybe), but I'd definatley strenthen up the front boat/shadows.

I'll shut up now. Before I bore myself to sleep.

It's a great scene though ain't it. Wish I was there instead of here

Paint on matey

Thank you Chalky!
That all makes perfect sense! It's no wonder you felt confused, when I did too. I really appreciate you taking time out to respond.... and so sorry! - I didn't mean to hijack your thread...(I'll move it if you'd prefer).

Thanks Roo,

The little red reflection in the wet sand made this pic for me I think.

Paint on

Hi Chalky
You did ask for critique. As a cheerful and colourful work I cannot criticise. But as soon as the tide rises the boat will sink. You have a strong downward curve for the port side but a straight line for the starboard. One surely must match the other.
Make sure you gotta a lifebelt.
Lol

What a liberty!

Ah well, yasee Jack....The starboard side was built for going up the straights of Gibralta, and the port side was designed to go round Cape Horn.

Fancy not knowing that!

3 squares a day
