Hi Wendy,

I'm looking at the linen canvases, I can't really find anywhere that has them at a reasonable price. Mind I was looking at some hand made oil paints yesterday, but I don't think I'll be going that far atm.

They look good Wendy, but I'm after some BIG ones. I'm thinking something like the 40 x 50 inches. :D

Had these paintings in mind for months/years, so I've decided to take the plunge and go for it. :!: Woo hoo.

Have you tried Harris Moore? They make them to size.

It's £140 at Harris Moore and only £75 at Art Exchange. I can't believe I'm saying 'only £75' for a canvas. :)

I would prefer the Harris Moore, but I quite like my husband so I don't want him suffering unduly.

Hi Jules
Have you tried making your own. ?
Buying stretchers and loose canvas and making your own? I have done loads , it's quite fun once you get a hang of it.

Good luck.

Hi Leyla,

it's definitely worth a thought but I am the least practical person ever. I may be able to persuade hubby to have a go for me, especially after he has seen the prices  but I'm gonna go for the ease of having something delivered ready to go for the first couple.

Love your Discovery painting BTW. 8)

I've been thinking about them for so long I'll probably faint if they ever get done.

They are going to be large abstract figurative works with lots of movement and light. I haven't painted for a long time 'cos I'm really hard on my work, if it doesn't look as I planned I get a bit narked. I'm going to have to learn to be a little more organic with my ideas and not quite so rigid.

Last thing I painted was a nude semi self portrait a year or so ago.

Wow! I love it. Vibrant colours which makes it alive. And yet not overworked.
I tend to over work and am trying to kind of leave it in may latest work. It's not enough I know, but it's nice for a painting to be almost half-finished, if you know what I mean. Where you can see the brush strokes underneath and next to the main image etc. It's a feel.
I am sure it'll be striking when you finish yours.

Where about in the North are you?

Thanks. :) I do think it is a bit overworked though, I'm thinking like you at the moment, less is more. I tend to get really tight when I'm finishing a painting, usually make a right mess of it and end up chucking it out.

I'm a Lancashire lass through and through.

jules - i bought the loxely gold canvas last year - 60 x 30 inches , 4 for £68... they were half price as slight seconds, the only fault was the canvas needs tightening a bit - their advice was wet it on the reverse. I've not used them yet because of the arm probs - i figure stretching that high/wide is asking for trouble - but couldn't resist buying them as a bargain..

I tend to keep going (my teacher always used to say: persevere!) over the line, instead of stopping.
It doesn't have to take you long time, we should give ourselves a break! It doesn't have to be hard labour to be worth something! We have SOME talent, for God's sake!
Usually it's the first few strokes that decide and than a bit more and a bit more, and that's it. STOP!
When I keep going after that, the painting changes to something completely different. Which just shows you.

Anyway, don't chuck the canvases away, paint over them! Nice thick base, lots of character!
I am in Yorkshire, so we are not that far away.
I am not through and through Yorkshire lass, though. As you can see from my bio.

Good luck.
