Hi,
I have recently developed http://www.artsociety.co.uk. Anyone can submit their piece of art. If the panel like it, it will be posted in the showcase! I hope to find the best artists out there. If you like the idea, post your piece of art and see if you make the gallery.

Hi Goldy

Try to post an image and got a reply: File type not acceptable! It was just ordinary Jpg file that everyone accepts.

I know you are just starting out .

Can you tell us more abut yourself and the gallery please
Thanks

Leyla

Hey thats very strange because i have received Jpg files when i tested it and from other people. I will have a look again. Maybe try .gif or .png for the mean time.

I am currently a student, but in my spare time i develop websites that i have an interest in.

My theory behind artsociety.co.uk was there is a lot of talent out there, however i wanted to showcase this online!

Hi All,
What are you hiding? In you file about you, you are telling us NOTHING ! !!!!! and people are suppose to send you their hard work for you to scan and print from ect, ect, ect. If you knew anything about art and the art world you would not wish to hold back on this information, you are asking ARTISTS to TRUST you. I think you should have a rethink on what you are trying to do before you start asking people to put their trust in your company.
Yours Sincerely Richard F Barber

site is a bit thin on info - for example there's no ( that i can find) T&C to say what they will do with your images or what you've agreed to. No info on what sort of image file required, jpg, tif, gif etc or max file size. No info on what the aims are - other thatn to "showcase" work.. and that can be done on any website - an image on the web
IS "showcased"!
I'm not sure what anyone would be getting from this - personally wiothout that info i wouldn't send anything.

ah - just found T&C tucked down the bottom - apologies - But I am concerned about this part

I assume it means the website content but not the images, but its easy to see how people could take it to mean they can use the images that have been uploaded..and though there's an email contact form there's no offline phone or physical address for problems.

Ok guys i understand the problem!
Those terms and conditions are meant to cover you the artist! I will put them in a visible place. I couldn't care less if someone stole my images.

I am not making any money from the site hence why iv left the ads at the bottom blank, that space is for useful sites such as the art fund. I'm trying to run a competition where an artist can be picked to have their art put in a real gallery, but its not concrete yet.

I design websites and hence this site will be added to my gallery of work and thats about as much as i can get from it!

Hope you guys trust me now, let me know if you want to know anything else, constructive feedback is great.

Goldy, you are so not selling this one, at least to me!

I find it simply astonishing that anyone who can say the following to a group of artists:

Goldy wrote:

Most of us using this forum already have paid for websites, sell their work in some shape or form, and very much care if someone was to steal their images! So unless there's some misunderstanding I don't think we're really on the same wavelength here at all.

My only constructive points on your website would be 1) if you're cold calling for participants, at least have something that looks like a finished product ie content, sensible and visible T&C and certainly no "test" pages 2) know a little bit about the market you're delving into, being blase about image ownership is like a red rag to a bull to most artists.

Anyone who markets themselves online gets very weary (and suspicious) of this type of approach so bear that in mind if you feel any of our replies have been a bit terse.

Elise

No Not really!
If you have a couldn't care less attitude towards images that could be stolen, you don't have the right sort of site that Artits would feel happy with. They put their Heart and Soul into their work not to have it reproduced by any Tom Dick Or Harry.

I have just put the terms and conditions on the main navigation.

I have also amended them as follows:
"You may not make alterations or additions to the material (including images uploaded by users) on this site,......."

I hope this shows my that intentions are to protect the artist.

Kind regards
Goldy

My comment was indeed a mistake, it was meant to enforce the fact i care more about the artist than my own work because as you all very well know the website is pointless without the artists and therefore that would would deem my work pointless.

I am sorry for the miss representation of my enthusiasm. I really do appreciate your replies i am trying to learn as much as i can.

Kind regards
Goldy

You certainly had a good first lesson here Goldy!

The trouble is that there are so many online galleries now and you have to have something special to offer both to buyers and artists to attract the attention. Also website has to be attractive and easy to navigate.

Have a look on Google and you will learn.
Good luck

Thank you leylamurr,

I am trying to provide an incentive to get art galleries involved with the website. For example a piece of art could be be picked by them on an annual basis to be shown in their gallery. However its difficult if there is no art to show.

Vice versa, without this incentive people see no benefit to posting on the website.

The website needs to start somewhere and thats why I posted here. I hope that I have made it clear that the art belongs to the artist, and I would love for you guys to post your art. (from what iv seen from your signatures some amazing work).

I understand some people may still not trust the site, if so constructive criticism is still welcome.

Hi Goldy

I am sure you have good intentions.
Have you got any galleries in mind eg whose attention you would ideally like to draw?

As I said earlier , I did try to download but it would not let me. Have you fixed this problem.?

That is if you find my images interesting?!

Or the gallery/ies for that matter..

Best wishes

Leyla

Hey

Well iv changed the site to allow all file types so I really hope it will work now.

As for galleries, well the more well know the better but I am communicating via email to art organisations, magazines etc. Hopefully something will come of that.

I think your art and everyones from this site i have looked at so far are great! I do sketch but Im not the greatest painter so I appreciate the talent it takes.

If you would like to see anything else on the site that you would find useful, or would like changed please let me know.

Thanks again,
Goldy
