Does anyone please know of a solvent (reasonably safe when used by an adult) that will dissolve/remove fully dried acrylic paint from fabric ?

Any help would be appreciated.

will it not just pick off, or come out with soapy water?

Try nail varnish remover!

Good luck.

I have found the only ways are to either pick it off, or soak it for ages in a solution of water and washing up liquid (other soaps may work too) and then scrub at it.

Because acrylic paint is water-based, I can't see nail varnish remover working, although it can work with some sovent-based paints and varnishes. If your fabric is acetate, it could dissolve the fabric, so be careful!!

I try to wear old clothes as I'm a messy painter - and I've never found dried paint washes out even if soaked. I think once its on its on forever. if its just a thick blob sometimes it'll pull off but tends to take the fabric with it - if its a smear then i think your stuck with it. Buy a broach...or some fabric paint and personalise it :D

maybe liquid glycerin from chemist - used in cooking - will soften it and then it might wash out?

It does depend on the fabric, and possibly how much paint there is. I have got it out of fabric before now with both methods, but I've failed miserably too, on other occasions.

It's true acrylic paint should be thought of as permanent once dry, because it usually is.

Good luck, and let us know if anything works!! :D Or doesn't!! :(

The nail varnish remover certainly softened it. So it could be 'balled off' by rolling it with the fingers. - Thanks leylamurr

After soap washing there is only a faint stain remaining.

What a wonderful forum this is ! Everyone is so helpful - many thanks to you all :D

One more thing that usualy gets the faint leftover mark out is the pink spray on stain remover oxy thingamyjig straight on the mark then a usual wash.
