Here's a very exciting question for a Friday evening (can anyone remind me what it was like having a social life pre kids???  ).

I noticed after the recent upgrades that my avatar on the forum posts was much lower res and blurry than before. I thought everyone was the same but I just noticed today that Wendy and Chalky both have nice sharp avatars - what's your secret guys?

Elise

I think it has something with avatar's size, not resolution. Right-click your, Chalky's and Wendy's avatar and then click properties.
There you can see that your avatar has only 1.19 KB, while Chalky's has 8.43 KB.
It's true, that Wendy's avatar has only 1.04 KB, but it has lower resolution (50x50 px). Your avatar's resolution is 60x60 px.

So higher resolution your avatar has, bigger should be it's size.
If you have problems with changing your photo into avatar size, you can send me the original to pm and I'll resize ti for you.

I hope I helped you and explained you everything quite correctly (sorry for my english  I'm really not master in talking about these technical stuff  )

How do I get an avatar uploaded ?
All I can find is this... Link off-site:
Enter the URL of the location containing the avatar image you wish to link to.

And I'm lost

My avatar comes from the image I've chosen for "Directory Listing" in the TAW "Other details" section and I don't know how to link to an offsite image either, maybe Larisa can shed some light on that.

The original image loaded is much larger than the avatar so it's obviously something which is happening when it's automatically resized. I tried making an 80px x80px image and uploading that but it was just as bad, then I tried making it smaller in case that made it sharper, nothing worked. :? I know it's not exactly of earthshattering importance  but it does bug me a bit, particularly when the images used to be perfectly sharp.

Hi
if you have a resized image you would like to upload and use as your avatar you can upload it onto any of your gallery pages (I used my Home page) but untick the 'visible' box on the 'upload image' page, then go to 'manage images and image pages' go into edit the gallery you've put image in then click on the image, a page will come up with just the picture on, copy and paste the URL from that page into the URL box on the edit avatar section, When I did this I still had to make sure the box showed 80px x80px and although it sounds complicated it did work.
Hope this helps, I know what you mean it's only a little thing but quite irritating
Shirley

Hooray! Well I tried the various suggestions (clicking on the image to get the URL through properties was definitely the way to go, thanks Shirley and Larisa) and although nothing seemed to work from my TAW images, I tried using one of my Minigallery images and for some reason that did work. :D :D :D

Well I have put to rest my inner geek by resolving this one, I'm off to Hobbycraft with my son to buy some arty bits and bobs now!

Cheers
