What is the best way to hang canvases direct to the wall in galleries (without picture rails) causing minimal wall damage?

Most galleries specify Mirror Plates. These are nearly always brass and the standard wall fixing is a 3/4" brass screw. Each plate requires two smaller screws to fix to your picture. Check with the particular gallery. Common sense tells you to fix these on the centreline of your picture frame but for some bizarre reason some galleries fix them just above... probably the only artistic input they have. :roll: Check though as gallery owners are notoriously precious about piffling irrelevancies. :shock:

:) Thanks Rob, thats really useful info.
Only had a couple of exhibitions so far, and the gallery owners I encountered were pretty relaxed - sounds like I was lucky!

Most hardware shops should have them. Don't be tempted to buy them from Art shops as they inflate the price about 1000%. Alternatively you can buy them online at around
