Morning all,

Just wandering which online galleries you've had success with and which ones you regard as the best ones to register with. There's so much choice it's hard to decide which ones to go with and where work would get the most exposure. to name just a few I've looked at - AlltradeArt, Galleries-online etc.

I've had most of my online sales through Minigallery, you get plenty of exposure through them, particularly at the higher subscription levels. I also joined Artfair365 and ZerooneArt at the beginning of the year, nothing so far, but still early days . Obviously I'm on TAW as well and I've had a few sales here too. I had one on Sunday actually which was a nice surprise as we'd been out at the beach all day and came home to a paypal notification in my inbox!

Hi Azza
Hang on with artfair365,I have sold with these too,www. zerooneart.co.uk
also http://www.artgallery.co.uk,and TAW,and of course my own site sunset paintings.

I got thrown off of minigallery because I told them what I thought about their buisness sense and bad customer service towards paying subscribers, although before this I sold well with them.

Yes Affordable British Art is a good one to look over and is run by a professional artist. Mini Gallery was great for me at the time, but became extremely difficult to manage for me, but I sold very well with them. Wendy gave them a right old telling off - which they did deserve - treated her badly :x
There is my one as well (not spamming) although it is fairly new, but it is working well, and having international sales now that it is getting known. Kos sold to NZ and 2 NZ artists have sold to UK :D
And not forgetting TAW of course, which I think is pretty much up there with the big boys now. The best advice though is that whoever you choose to go with, work hard at projecting and advertising yourself - thats what pays off in the end - good luck :D

i havn,t sold a thing online, been on here nearly 9 months, get more feedback from deviantart and flickr sites and they are free, don,t think i,ll be re-subscribing to this one too expensive for not even being able to put prices on for basic package which should have been the whole point

Maybe you should wait until the new super duper Beta Pooper is ready. I think we are all secretly hoping it will catapult us all into stardom!

I tried today to alter my images on it and this is not ready yet as I found lot of my images are doubled for some reason and also lots of old stuff on it which I don't really want there.
I think I will wait another year see what happens.

I sold one large painting through yessy.com not long ago and some others, mainly US sites. The only thing is you have to send painting out before you get paid. You do sign the contract with them though.
I get lots of nice comments on Imagekind.com a printing site, not that anyone is buying prints but nice community.
Has anyone sold any prints anywhere by the way??

Leyla, I joined Easy Art Academy last September, paid for 20 slots and have sold a grand total of 3 prints  ! So I'm still quite far off recovering my costs but since it's a one off upload fee rather than an annual thing I suppose eventually I should get my money back :? . I also joined Redbubble which is free but I hardly get any viewings there never mind sales so I don't know if it's really been worth the bother.

Mark, it does seem to take time before sales start flowing through, so don't give up. I've found that more images mean more hits which also tends to lead to more sales. So if you are staying with TAW it might be worth biting the bullet and going for the full package, load up lots of images, add new work regularly, and keep your fingers crossed.

cheers
Elise

I've migrated most of my "personal" and off-centre artwork to deviantart.com. It has a reputation for being filled with manga fans...which is partially true but it is a massive site, and can lead to some great exposure. I've had a lot of success and great feedback on there.

More importantly, I've also picked up a few good, paying commissions. If you're an illustrator, or willing to tackle just about anything, it could be worth a look. It operates as more of a community - so if you're into social networking as well, it's a good one. There are even fine artists on there, though you may have to look deep :D

All the comments above sound useful. For some reason prints don't seem to sell from my own site, but like elise I joined Easyart January last and now sell a few every month.
Someone told me a website needs at least 10 pages to be recognized by the search engines I am not sure how true this is.
But it really is a question of marketing your website at every opportunity and finding outlets yourself.
TAW and any website is just another bit of advertising and not a guarentee for sales.

Look around the galleries and see what is selling, also keep up with current fashions i.e what colours are in vogue in the High Street with furnishings.
If you only want to be famous, then don't expect to sell bucketloads.
If you want to sell plenty give the people what they want.
I know it might sound crass but it's true.

good info folks.

What about the "passive print sales" through TAW? has anyone sold anything? It seems the rates are pretty poor and they make a lot of it being Free, no subscription charge, etc.

Hello Azza,

I have sold online for the last 3 years and I think to say fairly you'd have to experiment with some of them. Look at what they might have to offer. I have had success at Zero One Art for sure tho I do feel the more choice there is the lesser the return sales become. Not sure unless you update regularly. I use to sell on Boundless but was recently suspended because a customer in the states felt that 1 week was far too long to wait for a commissioned painting to be shipped out from the UK lol. I recently launched a new site which is slowly growing called Blue Fish Gallery where you can buy and sell art online for zero commission and zero listing fees... lol Sorry, bit of marketing blab going on there. If you have your own website and you'd like to sell more on there I suggest you do all you can to get your name out there and promote you site, keeping it fresh with plenty of works for sale.
