I expect I would have too, if he had ever sent me the promised quote!

Despite chasing him up twice, I still have heard nothing and, to be honest, I do not think you should have to chase suppliers.

As I was in selling for over 25 years (and a very successful one) I am probably not very tolerant of poor sales practice.

If people are not quick off the mark to supply you, it does make you wonder what you can expect if something goes wrong - and, quite frankly, the world can be stressful enough without that added disharmony. :*(

Euphrosene

standard frame sizes suitable would be:
20 x 25cm
25 x 30cm
30 x 40cm
40 x 50cm

remember that mounts look more balanced if they are at least 1cm larger at the bottom.

Don't know how prices compare with Carters...but Britannia Mounts are very efficient for ready cut mounts to order.
http://www.britmounts.com/
We've used them many times for bulk mounting; they do double & triple thickness mountboard, lightweight backing boards, tapes, cellophane self-seal bags too.
Give us a mention if you contact them!

when i first began painting - around 2003/4 I painted mostly watercolours and contacted carters mounts several times for prices for sizes but gave up after never getting a response.....certainly indidn't inspire into sending any money to him. but that was a few years ago - maybe he's better now.

I'll be absolutely open in this reply right from the start because I'm David Carter the MD at Carters Mounts and over the last few days I've noticed a few comments winging our way.

Carters started in a 10 foot square shed cutting mounts by hand very much in the manner as described by yourselves . Then 14 years ago they bought one of the very first computerised cutting units that were coming into the UK by the Swiss.

They had new premises built (a garage ) and bought another machine. From that garage I built that business single handed to refelect two guiding principles ...of quality and value for money.

A number of years ago we moved from the garage into a large industrial unit and although our extensive active customer list reads like a who's who of the great and the good of this land from corporate companies down to individuals in the street we still provide products and services that are streets ahead in terms of quality and price of most of the offerings on the market.
We also kept our doors open to the very people who put us there i.e the artists community. We didn't ask for 100 units of each size before we would trade with you did we ? .

For the last twelve months we have known that we have issues relating to the supply of samples and answering e-mails. However with a company that has doubled in size year on year for the last three years these are issues of scale which are being addressed by bringing more people in to deal with the demand.

Let me repeat we provide in volume quality mounts at a fair and reasonable price. When you ring Carters you have up to this point being able to speak to me direct, not a machine, not a sales person and as many people will testify the quality and authorative nature of that advice is usually second to none and its free, given willingly and some of you who have contacted me know that.

I thank all of you for your comments . We are aware of the outstanding issues and they are being addressed so please bear with us for a bit longer.

nice sensible reply - everyone can relate to a company that admits its had some issues but is sorting them. Too often we're just seen a moaners rather than listening to us and seeing whats gone wrong

I gave critism - on the strength of this reply I'd be prepared to try again :) and will when I need more mounts, I don't use them alot though - mostly paint on canvas - but i'm having a watercolour and pastels binge at the moment so maybe if anything worth framing comes out :D .

I do remember the prices being excellent - its just the lack of contact that frustrated me and if you're sorting that - good.

Of the three I contacted (inc Carters) only Britannia Mounts responded - promptly and as they said they would. Thanks for the link, Val.

PS Yes I did mention you!
