Evening oil, Ahhh at last some sunshine, I thought we had summer back in April. Below is the start of an Iris close up, really enjoying painting this one, my wife's favourite flower.

that looks good, really sharp and striking - i love irises too, just got one coming out in garden and waiting for some sun so I can get out and paint it :D ( or at least take a decent pic to work inside with!)

Azza if you dont mind me saying I would keep the background white and sharp.I think it would keep the Contemporary modern look and feel to this work and appeal to the buyers.
I would also do one with a black background try it in your photosoftware to see.You could then offer prints with different back ground colours.

awww shucks guys, thanks so much for the compliments. My wife told told me I was starting to rush paintings so I'm spending more time on this one. Thanks for the advice Wendy, I'm rubbish at choosing background colour, I will also have a look at it with a different background.
I think with our weather Jeannie you might be painting indoors, hope not as the art group I'm in start their outdoor sketching programme soon.

Hi Azza,
Just thought I would say that I think your Iris is stunning. The colour is really beautiful. I'm sure your wife will love this when it is finished.

Take care
Kathy

Sheesh thanks for your kind comments Kathey. Due to all your lovely comments I think I will attempt another Iris when I've finished this one, matching pair me thinks. Chalky, I've just voted for your painting on patchings.

Hi Chalky,

Sorry I didn't read you last post until after we had been to Patchings. Must say you painting looked excellent. Really good exhibition and hi Standard of Art. I got to chat to Polly Pickering and a few other artists.

That's ok mate. No matter.

I see now what you meant re- the voting. I had a look at the Patchings site. I didn't realize there was a peoples vote.
You got mine by the way.

Excellent stuff
