Which artists inspire you. I have books with paintings to which I constantly refer. Do you?
If I pick four, they would be, Edward Coley Burne-Jones, Sir William Russell Flint, Jack Vettriano, and one of the Victorian painters of the nude, I'll pick Edward John Poynter.
From that bunch I think a description of myself is 'a romantic'.
>Lol

Sounds likeit Jack and get that impression from work too. Ilike a wide range-pretty eclectic really.Even though I have turned to designer making I am still influenced by painting in my designs often from early toomid early 1900's.
I havejust bought anew mouse and now finding key board is playing up and having tobash out the letters because everything is getting joined-up. :?

Harrr...never gotclose enough Jack. But, seriously, I liked the philosophy behind the arts and crafts movement but more tuned into Klimt and co.

Helen. Several years ago while I was still doing watercolours I tried copying a Klimt. Not very successful. I then introduced gold metal leaf onto the surface and was quite pleased with the result. But it was too time consuming.
But I think many people concentrate too much on the sometime awkward stance without realising that awkwardness conveys a message.

Not sure what you mean Jack, think I'm having a blonde day and not the blondes that have more fun day....
I have tried to copy Klimt's lovers but just did not come off although darn good practice. I like to think my struggles to aspire to other artists leave me with useful impressions that unexpectedly inform elements or features in my designs. When painting, I eventually discovered that I needed to put the research away and hope my imagination and skill was fed with enough bites of information to nourish my own creativity not crowd it out. Now I'm being romantic.

I've just registered Wendy's comment (I think). Yeah! We want to see more romantic heroines struggling in the face of gravity.

Howdy all,

I have a few books I refer to for a drop of the ol' insperation now and again.

I have a great David Shepherd book, a tops David Curtis book, and of course Sir Rolfsalott is always inspiring to my generation too.

If you're going old school you can't go far wrong with Caravaggio, for me.

colour it up

John Singer Sargent.,the way he painted with light was pure genius.
His most famous painting, carnation, lilly, lilly, rose is in the national gallery london, and the tate has plenty of his works,if you ever get chance take a look, they just blow me away. His watercolours are fantastic.
Another favourite of mine his the close friend of Sargent's the one and only Monet, the two often painted together in the 1880's.
And of course Turner and Constable,i wish i was alive then,ok id be dead now but....lol.
