Love this time of the year Wendy, everything starts to blossom on the garden, We've just fitted a pond and all the plants are coming out. We live in the coutryside so love the fact we can go walking/cycling now the nights are longer.

My wilderness garden is exactly that, a wilderness. My white clematis wall has now died off, but now pansies, snapdragons, ferns, herbs, and lots of other thingies. I'm not a gardener and don't know the names. Quite a few weeds as well, but colourful. Tthe benefit is lots of bees, and bugs which attract the bird life. Yep summer's on its way. I think the first day of summer is 20th June???

Below is a photo of our pond me and dawn fitted about 6 weeks ago. Calla lillies are starting to appear, foxgloves, lupins, and a bright pink poppy has opened, one for painting me thinks. I'll take a pic tonight an dpost over the weekend, it's grown quite a lot since this photo.

While we were on the motorway yesterday we passed a lovely patch of poppies on the embankment. I've never seen poppies by the side of the motorway before. :)

Hi, yes a beautiful time of the year - I love all the spring and summer months. It's great for painting from life, particularly horses as their coats are glistening with their new summer coats. It makes me feel happy when the sun shines as I can get out and about with my easel and paints.
Have you tried oil sticks? I can't get on with them at all, any hints would be appreciated as they are easier to carry.

We had a lovely day of school sports today, I managed to get sunsceen on the younger two but my oldest (10.5) refused and came home looking rather pinker than usual!

Looking at the other posts, I wish I could find a good picture of my garden just now as I've got rhododendrons and lilacs out, it's a good time of year for it. I'd love a pond but I'm worried it needs too much maintenance - my birdbath gets gungy from crows dropping bread (or worse) in it and the tadpoles my kids collected started to get algae. How do you keep large water features clean without loads of work? Last year I had to put the birdbath away because the crows started dropping bits of dead frog into it and it was just disgusting.

Jules, have you ever been to Fife in July/August? Maybe not by motorways but poppies are everywhere by the side of roads! I used to go to St Andrews as a kid and count the poppies on the way there, losing count was half the fun.

cheers
Elise

Michelle, don't worry the thought of an airgun has crossed my mind, particularly in previous summers we've had families of both crows and magpies living in the garden. The magpies are worst, they peck the putty round the windows and used to wake me up at 5am pecking away at the bedroom one.  Not seen them this year though so maybe they're roosting elsewhere, fingers crossed.

I find June is often the best month here in Scotland, it sometimes rains a lot or is very midgey in July and August. I don't suffer from hayfever myself although my 10 year old daughter gets it a bit.

Anyway off to the school fete now, got my summer frock on and everything!

Elise

I love summer too :D . I love it being light when I wake up, and going for a walk (or sometimes a run, my dodgy knee permitting  ) at 6am, before there are many people about. I love it staying light at night too. I love my garden, and growing a bit of veg (tomatoes, courgettes, runner beans, only the easy ones this year). And I love not having to get wrapped up to go out.

Summer! Sunny! Huh!

I left my finest 70% cocoa choccy on the table in front of the patio doors and it's now 99% knackered :?
