Hi
We have recently had some giclee prints done from an original acrylic painting and reproduced on block canvas.

The results are a little disappointing in terms of reproduction of some of the colours and we feel that perhaps a coat of normal acrylic varnishmight help to lift the colours a bit.

Does anyone know whether it is possible to varnish a giclee canvas print in this way, and whether the picture might benefit from this.??

Many Thanks
Misty.

Hi Misty,
Take them back and get your money back, If you are not satisfied with the product , don't accept it . If someone was not happy with YOUR painting they would bring it back to you wanting their money back. So you are entitled to do the same. This is one of the big pitfalls with Prints, so unless you are fully satisfied don't accept them and get your money back.

Giclee prints are usually produced on coated paper using inks/pigments, therefore if you try painting any kind of liquid on top it will lift the ink off. Presumably the same would apply to canvas, but you could check with whoever produced them. They may have some king of protective coating, if you're lucky!

I agree with Richard - simply return them. They need to be to a standard you are happy with, how can you sell them on otherwise?

I'm with Richard and Jeannie, ask for your money back,I don't think varnish would help as it is more of a photograph than a painting and would probably not adhere to it.
