Hi all,

How's everybody this today?

All is well here in a Wales. We're basking in some damp sunshine this afternoon. A good day for painting indoors.

I've finished my lion painting if you want a gander.

Image

Oil on canvas 16'' by 12''.

The background didn't go as planned really, but I think it's ok.
I'm quite happy with the fella himself. I was going for the menacing look.

Anything you would have done differently let me know won't you.

Here to learn.

Catch ya

p.s still rainin!

I'm not sure he's quite what I'd describe as menacing but it he looks great and the background fits him well.

I like the way you show your works in progress, its good to see.

Enjoy your rain, its started here now so will get on with some painting myself.

Helen :)

Hi Chris

The finished result is very good and I think the background fits in well and makes the lion jump forward. Well done and thank you so much for showing us your work in progress, I really enjoyed seeing the updates.

Regards

Linda

hi chalky - yes agree with whats been said - well done - i like the way you've left the right ( as you look) side dark, and not carried the background across. His head seems to have blended into the mane now too :)
nice work

I don't usually go much on wildlife pictures but I really do like this lion.

10/10

Hi Chris, Rob and I both like it a lot. We both agreed that the viewer is taken straight into the painting towards the lions eyes which are excellent. They really give the feel of a lion studying the distance for signs of movement and keyed up ready for the off.
Well done, great stuff. :D

Hi folks,

Thanks for your comments on my lion painting.

I'm starting a new one today and I've already managed to get paint all over my sleave.
Got most of it off, but the whole house smells of white spirits now.

Ya gotta love it

Hi Chalky,

John Jarratt here again. I rarely have time to go to the Forum so it was a nice surprise to see your lion and its development. It looks good, you are improving wonderfully and are obviously as keen as mustard.
My only critique is that I find the background on the right to be rather uninspiring but still fairly dominant. Myself I would consider physically cutting off about a quarter or a third of it which would emphasize Leo a little more and balance better.
I like your idea of posting work in progress; might try that myself.
JJ

I love animals and he is a great lion. I think that my eye is rather drawn to the right hand side space though. Prob being over critical? but the lion himself is perfect!

I wouldn't do any mutual stroking to this fine Beast:lol:   I like the water but must admit it does detract from Leo.

Hi
If you cover up the bottom half of the image you have a menacing look. Cover up the top half and it is a pussy cat waiting for the cream. I don't know why and I don't know what the answer is. But it's not quite right.
You did ask for comments!!!
It's still very good.
Jack

Oo..Aye..What!

This is an oldie  . I see I posted this back in September.

Yes, I agree with you all. (now that's diplomatic  ) The background is poor. And it's not even meant to be water Wend

Not sure what I was going for with that one really. I was trying to get a blurry out of focus background, but It didnee work :? .

I can't go and tweak the prairie prowling fella though cause he's been sold.(hurahh.)

So you're saying my Lion has a weak chin eh Jack. (what a liberty) I see ya point though.

Good to hear from you JJ. I popped in on your website and see you to are as busy as ever.
You have some fine paintings on there.

Thanks for your comments all.

Much appreciated.

Now stop readin and get to paintin
