Just thought id get another ball rolling here with a simple question.
What mediums and makers you prefer.
Myself i paint in watercolours, goauche and acrylics,i used to paint in oils and will again one day no doubt.
For watercolours i use Winsor&Newton Artists Quality, pans and tubes.
For acrylics i use Rowney Cryla and more recently Winsor&Newton Finity, both are Artists quality but i prefer the Winsor&Newton range, they do stay workable longer,i find the Rowney a bit to quick drying for me.
Goauche i use,yes you guessed it Winsor&Newton. :D

Hi There

I use mostly oils- Either W&N or D&R, depending on whats on offer. Id like to spend more on my paint but something else more 'desperate' alwasy comes up! I sometimes add wax and sand to my paintings which is great fun and produces some interesting effects. I also produce the odd watercolour and some pen and ink drawings- cant remember the makes of those. :D

I use Cryla, Galeria and System 3. Drying times are only an issue if you use acrylic straight from the tube. Acrylics are more versatile when diluted. You can use Flow Enhancer or water. You get the added benefit of glazing techniques but the downside is that your easel will become redundant. Most people who use acrylic straight from the tube do so because they work with easels....

Watercolour for me..W&N artists quality in tubes although some of the SAA w/c is good too and at a very reasonable price. I specially like their "Whopper" brush as well :)
I also use pastels Rowney/sennellier/schminke and pefer pastel card or glasspaper to pastel paper.

Anyone tried either the Water soluble oils or the Alkyd resin oils from W&N?
I was very interested in trying the Alkyds slower drying than Acrylics but quicker than the traditional oils, but i have read that they are very transparent, which i dont like in oils.

I use artisan all the time, I love them :)
They're perfect for me as I've 3 wee kids and don't want to have solvents and things lying around the house. I haven't used normal oils in years so I couldn't compare them as Wendy has, but I find them very versatile :D

I have painted in oils and watercolours but I now have reverted back to acrylics, mainly due to their quick drying time, I also use a lot of texture..salt, bleach, papers, acrylic medium texture pastes etc. I also use inks quite a bit and sometimes add in pastels. Depends on the subjectd matter really.. :) I especially use a lot of gold, bronze and silver acrylics as I love the shimmer I get from these colours... :D

I've used watercolors, mainly Winsor Newton, and Grumbacher; last couple years I've used acrylics, and am all over the map-Golden, Liquitex, Finity, Galleria. I've found that Golden is the best, it's also the most expensive by far, and my wholesale unfortunately does not carry Golden, so I only rarely get what I need through them...
