Welcome Rachel,
I think 'tender' sums up it up. The ellies are quite moving and I can almost sense touching the horses flanks. Lovely work, I think you could go a long way too.

Good luck

Helen

hello rachel - lovely works.. very moving and emotional feeling from the elephants - they are just fabulous.
where did you get your ideas from - your imagination or are they from photos that you've taken ( ok - elephants aren't common in UK :D but it could be from a zoo??)

hi rachel,
they're beautiful!
i can see them being popular prints.
do you have a website?
in which direction would you want to take your work? as a wildlife artist? illustrator?

thanks everyone for your comments, the elephants are just playin with each other! i mainly work from photographs, i usually change things in the composition to make them better, using memory and references. i really dont know where to go from here, i have a couple of pieces on the internet that are for sale but could do with some helpful ideas to get me started, i dont want to go down the road of pet portraits, people just dont understand the amount of time and effort i put into my work, it seems they want 3 or 4 days work for £60! time is also an issue for me as i work shifts full time, id love to make a go of this and your positive comments have helped, any input, including critisim is greatly appreciated!!!

Hi Rachel, How to sell is a minefield and I am still learning the ropes. There are no simple answers and it takes a lot of time and dedication to whichever route you follow. If youv'e got a few hours to spare, comprehensive discussion and experience sharing of pros and cons can be found in past threads on this forum from selling online to live sales/exhibitions etc. TAW admin area provides good fundemental advice on how to sell via a website. Online selling advice is also on many other art/craft promotion sites. Or just google your queries.
Some sound basics have been posted here too on what and how with a web gallery. Two tips if you aim to sell online:
.be confident about what you say about your work - keep it very short and to the point to begin with - heaps of professional looking sites on Taw and viewing strongly recommended;
.select your best work to exhibit online - your site is as strong as it's weakest link. Five stunning images, for example, are better than chucking everything in the pot just in case. (not that I've ever done that, of course  )

As for earning a wage from art, I strongly recommend researching the forum threads and googling again.
Meanwhile, if you love it, keep at it and you will have a good portfolio of work to select from when you get around to marketing.

Helen :D

P.S. I think the print idea is definately worth considering - more asking and googling............

Hi Rachel,
You have a lovely sense of composition and a sensitive touch with the pencil without being twee - it's just great! You absolutely must keep going. Do you paint as well? Good luck!

Hi
I've enjoyed looking at your work. You draw exceeding well (as Mr. Kipling might say). Your horses are excellent with the feathering at the hoofs especially.
I have seen artwork like this to illustrate books and cards. That might be an area for you to explore. Also magazine work. I would strongly recommend you buy, or borrow from the library, a book called 'Writers and Artists Yearbook. It has lots of contacts and magazines and card manufacturers are constantly on the lookout for new talent.
My best wishes to you. I wish I was only 36.
Lol
Jack
