I have been offered a possible opportunity to paint works for a company that manufactures tatouage (transfers). They could possibly be selling these on QVC. any ideas on what kind of a financial deal should be made with an opportunity like this? I would create one painting and then it would be reproduced many times for sale as a transfer for walls.

well done - no idea what costs though. you need to arrange a formal "licence" for them to use your works too - make sure you protect yourself just in case one gets very popular.. I'd guess an upfront fee of ?£'s and then a percentage of each sale? Offer a licence to use and you keep copyright wouldbe my advice - but remember I've never done anything like this so ask around for views of anyone that has.

I've worked for greetings card companies many times, which is pretty similar to the type of work you're talking about. Every company, without exception offer a one-off payment for artwork, there are normally no negotiations on this unless you are a very established artist. The company can then use your work as and when they like (I've seen my cartoons being used on birthday cards ten years after they were first produced as say fathers day cards) They are effectively buying the copyright from you and generally, greetings card companies pay a pretty good fee for artwork. I haven't done this work for a few years but I would imagine around £300-£500 per design would be normal today. But remember you kiss goodbye to any future use. Best of luck though.... It could be a very good source of income if you do as they ask and most importantly WHEN they ask !

great commission.
attached is a link for the association of illustrators pricing survey.

if you look under 'merchandising' it'll give you a good idea for pricing.

good luck with it.
