From time to time I lend paintings to hang in "public" premises, i.e. a holiday cottage, cafe, pub. I value the exposure and have actually sold one. However, my work isn't insured while on display in these places. I see that SAA provide exhibition insurance, but I guess it wouldn't cover a painting that was in a holiday cottage for say a year.

Any suggestions anyone?

The SAA does cover paintings in exhibition but it has to be a supervised venue-at least Im pretty sure thats the case.I would be surprised if you can get insurence anywhere to cover hanging in a holiday home.Maybe the owner of the holiday home could claim if one were to be nicked?

yes - dianne is right - it has to be a supervised venue. maybe the home owners could add it on to their contents insurance - they have to have decent furnitiure in homes nowadays and its bound to be insured. Also use mirror fixings - like they do in pubs, screw onto the wall. they can still be stolen but less opportunistic impulse nicking!
