Brighton has an amazing art community with many excellent artists working throughout the city producing a whole range of different types of art and crafts.
Numerous galleries showcase original paintings, limited edition prints and hand crafted sculptures. Styles vary from fine detailed through to naive or abstract works.
If you venture down onto the seafront between the two piers, located right on the beach is the famous 'Artists Quarter'. This is a collection of professional artists, painting and selling their artworks from a row of Victorian fisherman workshops that have been converted into studios.
The area gets really busy in the summer months with a great atmosphere and the artists displaying their work on easels along the strip of beach. A variety of paintings can be bought here for a very affordable price.
Brighton artist Zorian Matthews (Zorian Artworks) is an example of one of these painters, based in the seafront studios. He specialises in fine detailed, almost photo realistic images, using bold, vivid colours. Visitors can see his work that includes dramatic landscapes, seascapes, night scenes of moon, stars and the cosmos, beautiful sunsets and stormy skies. Quirky stories are illustrated by Zorian, such as the true adventure of a group of rubber ducks that got washed off a container ship and then travelled around the world for 15 years on the ocean currents!
Far flung, exotic locations are captured, from the decadence of Venice to the calm of a lake full of Flamingos in Bolivia, the tranquility of sand dunes along a remote Scottish coast to the harsh, dry heat of Arizona.
The Brighton Artist Quarter is open throughout the year and welcomes visitors to just come and browse and enjoy the surrounding seafront and attractions.
